    Location

This property is located a short 5-minute flat walk to both SMA’s main public park (Parque Juarez) and the Rosewood Hotel. It is also a 12-to-14-minute flat walk to the Parroquia.

    History of the property

This property was bought by a Canadian couple named Leonard and Reva Brooks who came to live permanently in San Miguel de Allende in 1947-48. Both of them were artists and quite famous in Mexico and internationally. My wife and I had the good fortune of meeting Leonard in 2004 (the year Reva died) and became good friends with him and his sister-in-law Beverly Silverman. Beverly came to SMA after Reva died and lived with Leonard and was his companion and was charged with selling his art. Leonard passed away at 100-year-old in 2011 (6 months before we moved here in SMA). See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Leonard_Brooks. Riva Brooks was a photographer of some renown having been recognized one of the top 50 women photographers in history by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reva_Brooks).

About the Property and the lots

This property is one of the assets left by the trust created by Leonard and Riva Brooks and is controlled by two trustees. The other assets are the trove of paintings and photographs left by the artists at the time of their death.

The entire property contains 2,518 square meters.

Of the subdivided lots, Lot #1 contains the Leonard and Reva Brooks art studio (this studio will become a museum for exhibiting and selling the art). This lot is not for sale at this time.

Lot # 3 has the very large house that Leonard and Riva built and lived in. I have gone through this house to an architect that I know, and respect and his opinion is that this house could be remodeled and turned into a very desirable property.

Lots #2, 4 and 5 are empty (no structures of any significance).

All of the lots would have separate entrances onto public roads (La Quinta or Calle Cañadita de los Aguacates).

    Other interesting facts

When Leonard and Riva bought the property, it contained more than 5,000 square meters of land. Leonard asked his brother and sister-in-law to buy half of it and split the property in two. Thus, ~ 2,500 square meters of land adjacent to the Brooks property is owned by the son of Beverly Silverman. This property can also be purchased.
